I haven’t been here to post anything in a long fucking time. So where have I been? School finished a week ago, all my studying and projects were done before that, and I haven’t had work in the past 6 days. So what exactly have I been doing with my time?
Killing zombies.
About a month ago I got the game Left 4 Dead. Mostly because its developed by the same company (Valve) that made Half Life 2, and I fell in love with that game so much that I played it through twice as well as the two episodes my copy came with. But also because everything I read stated that it was a simple game, but here is my version: see zombie, kill zombie. And I love that.
There is no tutortial, no stats, no levels, nothing but turn it on and kill. Having had experience with Valve’s control setup, I already had that down. So it was just a matter of learning what the game was about and some of the finer points. And how did they get this across? With a rather inovated intro movie that also works as a lesson for how the game is played. It’s also extermely entertaining.

What you see there is exactly how the game works. They relied heavy on zombie movies from all different decades as inspiration. I see moments from Romero’s first Night of the Living Dead all the way up to modern day zombie flicks. With zombies just appearing endlessly and appear from nowehre. But they also added their own twist. In particular with those extra special zombies like that screaming girl one (The Witch) or that giant motherfucker (The Tank).
As I said, the game is really simple. You turn it on, can play single player (which works well to learn the game for the first time) or online which is by far more fun especially with friends. You have your standard weapons of a pistol, shotgun, uzi, sniper, and an assault rifle. But you also have pipe bombs, moltovs, and can melee the bastards.
I’ve spent every day this week with someone in the game. It’s led to many laughs and a lot of fun. No regrets.
